Our Local Outreach

At St. Thomas More we take seriously the injunction of St. James, "Be doers of the word, and not hearers only; faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead." Below you will find a description of several of the ministries through whom we live out our faith in good works on a local level here in the Scranton area.

PHL logoOne such organization is the Scranton chapter of Pennsylvanians for Human Life, taking part in  - and assisting in logistics with - the annual Mother's Day Carnation Sale, raising thousands of dollars to help fight for the pro-life cause and help mothers with unexpected pregnancies on a very local level.

St. Francis Kitchen LogoWe also support the St. Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen in downtown Scranton, serving over 225 hot meals every day of the week. Our annual support includes a bake sale on the Sunday closest to St. Joseph Day, with all proceeds going to the St. Francis Kitehcn.

Periodically we also engage in a Christmas charity project, collecting gifts under a tree at church which we present to a local family in need.

CarolersFinally, we also maintain an annual tradition of singing Christmas Carols to the residents  at Scranton Manor nursing home on the Sunday after Christmas, blessing the elderly and lonely at a time of year when they most often feel the lack or loss of loved ones in their lives.
