Baptismal Preparation
Baptism is the means by which all people become Christians, whether infant, child, youth, or adult. How you are prepared for Baptism depends upon your current age and situation.
Infants & Younger Children
Parents wishing to have their infants or young children baptized should contact the Parish Office and make themselves known to the Pastor or Administrator. Parents not currently active in the Catholic Church or the Parish will need to undergo a period of instruction with the Pastor, leading up to the baptism of their child. Baptisms of infants or young children take place at any time of the church year, and - according to the situation - may either be during the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass, or may be a private family ceremony outside the context of Mass.
Older Children & Adults
Unbaptized older children and adults are typically baptized during the same Mass that they also receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. Since the celebration of all these Sacraments entail the entry of a well-catechized adult into the Catholic Church, preparations are naturally more substantial than for infant baptism. Teens may attend the Confirmation Sunday School Class, and adults may attend the Inquirer's Class. For both teens and adults, if intractable scheduling conflicts make those classes impossible to attend, the Pastor is happy to provide private catechesis at a mutially agreeable time. Older children and adults are typically baptized at the Solemn Vigil of Easter, on Pentecost (50 days after Easter), or the Bishop's visitation, usually on or about August 18.
Older children and adults preparing to recieve Baptism and/or First Holy Communion will also need to undertake their First Confession beforehand.
