Our Local Outreach Efforts
At St. Thomas More we strive to "be doers of the word, and not hearers only" (see James 1:22-27). Perhaps our biggest impact on the local level has been our 2012 purchase and renovation of our campus in North Scranton, one of the city's poorest neighborhoods. Since then, the neighborhood has taken on new life: The long-abandoned Junior High School across the street has been renovated into 54 apartment units, and we have purchased two lots adjacent to our property, demolishing blighted buildings and creating precious new green space.
Moreover, the Parish supports and partners with other local ministries, serving the disadvantaged here in Scranton:
The Parish also undertakes an annual Christmas caroling outing to Scranton Manor Personal Care Center, bringing Christmas cheer and friendship to the elderly at a time of year when lonliness is most accutely felt.
