Our Mission Congregation
St. Thomas More Parish is home base to a mission congregation in the Lehigh Valley, the Blessed John Henry Newman Society. The Society meets for Mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Bath, PA on the first and third Sundays of each month at 5:00 p.m., whereby Fr. Bergman and volunteers from St. Thomas More take the Divine Worship Mass "on the road" to Bath, together with local volunteers and musicians at Sacred Heart Parish.
Mass is followed by a lively coffee hour, and - on third Sundays of the month - a Youth Group activity.
The congregation was founded in 2014 as a pastoral response to a group of Anglican Christians in the region seeking to be reconciled to the Catholic Church, as well as former Anglicans already within the Catholic fold. While erected with a special mission to welcome our separated Anglican brethren home to the Catholic Church, persons of all backgrounds and walks of life are most welcome to participate fully in the worship and ministries of this community.
Lehigh Valley residents interested in this mission outpost should contact our Parish Office in Scranton (as yet we do not have a permanent administrative presence in Bath), or simply attend one of the bimonthly Masses and coffee hour and introduce themselves. A map to Sacred Heart Parish is available here.
