About Our Parish
St. Thomas More Parish is a friendly, growing, and thriving Catholic congregation in Scranton, Pennsylvania with a mission to welcome people of all walks of life to the Catholic Church through beautiful worship, authentic community, robust teaching, compassionate outreach, and joy in sharing Good News. We are a community that strives each day to live out the Catholic faith in the modern world with integrity and joy.
Our founding members and our priest were members of a local Episcopal parish who all came into the Catholic Church as an intact congregation in 2005, but our membership has expanded in numbers and diversity ever since, as we have welcomed people of many other backgrounds into our fellowship: Lifelong Catholics, Protestants exploring the Catholic faith, lapsed Catholics rediscovering the Church, and non-Christians curious to learn more about Jesus.
We are also home base to a mission congregation to our south in the Lehigh Valley, the Blessed John Henry Newman Society.
Because so many of us became Catholics as adults, our embrace of the Catholic faith is not an unreflective adoption of our parents' religion, but a joyful homecoming after long and thoughtful discernment. So whatever your background - whether Catholic, Protestant, or non-Christian - your questions will be welcomed and honored in our community. Yet we believe the great questions of life do indeed have true and satisfying answers, available to all in the Catholic faith. We hope you will join us in this journey of seeking after Truth... and finding it!
